Causes of the Civil War DBQ

Opening:
How would you feel if your rights were taken away? Not only the slaves of the 1800’s in America but all the Northerners and Southerners of the 1800’s perceived it to be their fate. Between the abuse of human rights through slavery, the predicted collapse of the Southern economy through freeing of the slaves, and the secession of the angry southerners lead to one of the bloodiest wars in US history, the civil war. Slavery and economy went hand in hand for the South, without slavery they lost cheaper labor and their cotton production suffered. They would then earn less money and their economy would collapse, because of this the South threatened to secede in order to keep their way of life and be able to feed their families.  The North stood up for their belief that slavery goes against human rights, angering the South.

What was challenging about the DBQ process? Why?: The most challenging part of writing the DBQ was to organize our thoughts into the supporting arguments and then write the opening without adding too much information. It was challenging for me to look at the DBQ then find what parts of it supported secession, as we thought secession was part of it but the DBQ did not have much on it.
